A WORD OF WELCOME

Welcome to the Parish of the Sacred Heart, Roscommon, Ireland. Roscommon is the county town of the County of Roscommon in the West of Ireland. It is a town which is growing in size and prosperity. It has a population of circa 5,500 people. The Parish has 1,500 families - this includes the outlying area of Kilteevan which has its own Church which is dedicated to St. Joseph.

In 2003 our Church celebrated its centenary. It was dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus on 18th June, 1903. It is regarded as one of the most beautiful Churches in Ireland and is well worth a visit.

As part of our centenary celebrations during 2003 we brought out a new book on the Church, which contains some beautiful pictures of the inside of the Church. Copies of the book may be ordered here. Another of the projects undertaken for the Centenary was this website. We are hoping that it will help us to communicate better with our own parishioners and with people from our Parish wherever they may be throughout the world. We would welcome contact from other parishes and people generally. We express a special thanks to Michael Burke whose photos we have used.
